Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (September 28) -- In the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams, the Assumption College field hockey team fell by a 1-0 final to visiting Bentley University at the Multi-Sport Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The lone scoring in the game came via a Bentley penalty stroke at the 21:14 mark of the first half as Melissa Martorelli converted the shot just past a diving Heather Philbrick (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) for the 1-0 lead. Shots on goal were 6-5 in favor of Bentley in the period, with each goalie making five saves over the opening half.

In the second, the Hounds struggled to get offensive opportunities for the opening 15 minutes before creating some chances over the latter portion of the second half. Assumption was unable to crack the Bentley defense though as the game ended up 9-8 overall for shots in favor of the Falcons. Penalty corners were fairly even as well at 6-5 in favor of Bentley.

Philbrick made five saves in the loss for Assumption, while Bentley sophomore Katie Kelley turned aside seven shots in the win.

With the loss, Assumptions drops to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in Northeast-10 play, while Bentley improves to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Tuesday, October 1st as the Hounds play host to nationally-ranked LIU Post for a Northeast-10 Conference game beginning at 7 p.m.
