Worcester, Mass. (January 4) -- The Assumption College ice hockey team dropped a 3-2 final to Northeast-10 Conference rival Franklin Pierce University at the Buffone Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Ravens used a second period power play goal as the decisive score in the contest.
Franklin Pierce jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a power play goal by Teddy Walsh at 7:42 in the first period.
Assumption knotted the score up at one as Paul Amarone (Hamden, Conn. / Trinity Pauling) marked his first career goal off assists by Brennen Shaw (Presque Isle, Maine / Brewster Academy) and Trevor Plante (Blackstone, Mass. / Mount Saint Charles). Matt Batis closed the first period scoring with a goal at 15:22 to give the Ravens a 2-1 lead after one period.
Senior Kyle Zobler (Millbury, Mass. / New Hampton) tied the game for a second time off an assist by junior Ben Kuzma (East Haven, Conn. / Worcester Academy) at 1:45 in the second period before the Ravens gained the final advantage with the power play tally at 13:49 in the frame.
Senior Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass. / Williston-Northampton) made 32 saves in the loss for the Greyhounds while Dave O'Brien made 20 saves to earn his first win of the season.
The Greyhounds fall to 2-9-1 on the season while the Ravens improve to 2-8-1 with the victory.
Assumption will be back in action on Tuesday, January 7th at Fitchburg State University. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
