Worcester, Mass. (October 11) -- Led by a pair of goals by sophomore Sarandon Dias (Swansea, Mass./Bishop Stang), the Assumption College men's soccer team used a four-goal first half to power to a 4-0 shutout win over Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon. The Hounds scored all four goals in less 10 minutes, en route to the convincing victory.

Assumption got on the board at the 15:14 mark as sophomore Ethan Morrow (Huntington Beach, Calif./Hyde) collected the ball to the right of the net before touching it to senior Troy Lamagna (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) for a blast and the 1-0 lead. The Hounds made it a 2-0 margin just 1:26 later as Hawks keeper Stephen McLeod made an initial save off his fingertips, but the rebound came to Dias for the unassisted tally and his second goal of the season.

Dias scored off a corner kick play just over 20 minutes into the half, with the ball being played in by Lamanga as the captain picked up his first assist of 2014. With 20:08 left in the first half, senior captain Kieran Hillery (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield) scored on a header off a corner kick played in by senior Matt Flynn (East Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) for the 4-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Hounds held a 5-3 edge in shots and finished the game with a 15-4 advantage in total shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Junior Dana King (Windham, Maine/Windham) backboned the defense with two saves, while McLeod had four stops for the Hawks. Sophomore Pedro Hernandez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Maristas de Guaynabo) made his first appearance of the season, playing the final seven minutes.

With the win, Assumption improves to 2-7-1 overall and 2-4-1 in Northeast-10 play, while the Hawks fall to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Tuesday, October 14th as the Hounds travel to Saint Rose for a 7 p.m. start in Albany, N.Y.
