Manchester, N.H. (October 18) -- A second-half goal by junior Kiley Colucci (Gloucester, R.I., /St. Mary Academy) with just under 19 minutes left broke a 1-1 tie to lift the Assumption College field hockey team to a 2-1 road win over No. 9 ranked Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference action at Grappone Stadium.
Assumption jumped on the Hawks in the opening minutes as junior Sarah Frahm (Salem, N.H./Salem) scored her second goal of the season on a shot from the right wing for the 1-0 edge just 1:55 in. Assisting on that goal was sophomore Andrea Koslowski (Warren, Mass./Quaboag Regional) as the Hounds took the 1-0 edge into the halftime break. Assumption held a 4-2 margin in shots in the opening 35 minutes, along with a 5-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Saint Anselm got on the board quick in the second half as Allia Connolly tallied her seventh goal of 2014 for an unassisted score and a 1-1 tie. The goal came on a breakaway thru the zone and a shot inside the right post. Colucci picked up the game winner for the Hounds with 18:43 on the clock though on her team-leading eighth goal of the year and third game winner. Koslowski assisted on that goal as well as she found Colucci on the right side for her team-best fifth assist thru 10 games.
Senior goalie Lauren Neilan (Mendon, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) made six saves in the win, while Saint Anselm netminder Katherine Sears had three stops in the loss.
For the game, Saint Anselm held an 11-9 edge in shots, while Assumption posted a 9-7 advantage in penalty corners.
With the win, Assumption improves to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in Northeast-10 play, while Saint Anselm has now last two straight as the Hawks drop to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Assumption is back in action on Tuesday, October 21st as the Hounds travel to nationally-ranked LIU Post for a 4 p.m. start.
