Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (October 25) -- Led by a goal and an assist from junior Kiley Colucci (Gloucester, R.I./St. Mary Academy), the Assumption College field hockey team won for the fourth time in its last five games as the Hounds defeated No. 9 Saint Michael's, 2-1, at the Multi-Sport Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The win is the third this season for Assumption over a nationally-ranked opponent and also the third straight game where the Hounds have taken on a team ranked in the Top 10.

Assumption got on the board with 13:11 left in the opening half Colucci tallied her team-best ninth goal of the season for the 1-0 lead. The play developed off a penalty corner from Taylor Chase (Holden, Mass./Wachusett), which was then played into a crowd of players in front of the net. Colucci had been knocked to the ground in the fight for the ball, but managed to get the shot off for the early lead. Assumption took the lead into the half after owning an 11-0 advantage in shots in the half and a 5-1 edge in penalty corners.

Senior Paige Anderson (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) extended the lead to 2-0 just 3:01 into the second half as she notched her third goal of the season. Assisted on by Colucci, Anderson put home the goal in a battle for the ball just to the left of the goalie.

Saint Michael's pushed up on offense in the final minutes and cut the lead in half as senior Cassaundra Davis put home her team-best 11th goal of the season with 3:50 left for the 2-1 margin. The goal came off a rebound on a shot by senior Hannah Beardsley.

The Purple Knights kept up the pressure in the last four minutes, forcing senior goalie Lauren Neilan (Mendon, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) to make four saves, including two straight at point-blank range.

Neilan made four saves in total for the Hounds in the win, while Sarah Healey had 12 stops for the Purple Knights in the loss.

For the game, Assumption held a commanding 24-7 edge in total shots and a 13-6 advantage in penalty corner.

With the win, Assumption improves to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the Northeast-10, while Saint Michael's drops to 8-4 overall and is now 4-1 in league play.

Assumption is back in action at home on Wednesday, October 29th as the Hounds host Southern Connecticut for a 7 p.m. start at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
