Waltham, Mass. (October 3) -- The Assumption College men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at Bentley on Friday, dropping their overall record to 1-6-1 (1-3-1 NE-10) on the season. Junior Glenn LiBassi (North Scituate, R.I. / LaSalle Academy) led the Hounds on the offensive front, posting two of Assumption's five shots on goal.
The Falcons (3-6-1, 2-4-1 NE-10) earned the lead just 14:45 into the first period when Bentley's Nick Hoffman received a cross into the box from the right wing from Marty Ryan. Hoffman was able to find the back of the net for the first and only goal of the game.
Despite the final score, the teams remained evenly matched throughout the rest of the game. In the first period, both teams tallied just two corner kicks while Assumption took three shots, compared to five for Bentley. In the second period, Bentley demonstrated a slight edge, notching five corner kicks to Assumption's three, and six shots to the Hounds' five.
Overall, Bentley tallied 11 shots, six on goal, while Assumption posted eight, five on goal. Junior Dana King (Windham, Maine / Windham), who was named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll earlier this week, notched five saves in his 90 minutes between the posts.
Also contributing to the offense, with one shot on goal apiece, were sophomores Sarandon Dias (Swansea, Mass. / Bishop Stang) and Matt Gilson (Cumberland, R.I. / Mount Saint Charles Academy), along with senior Troy Lamagna (South Glastonbury, Conn. / Glastonbury).
The Hounds return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Adelphi at 7 p.m., followed by a home contest on Saturday, Sept. 11, against Saint Anselm at 12 p.m.
