Garden City, N.Y. (October 8) -- The Assumption College men's soccer team fell to Adelphi by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday night dropping the Hounds to 1-7-1 overall, 1-4-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Junior Dana King (Windham, Maine / Windham) tallied seven saves between the posts in 90 minutes.
The Panthers (6-4, 4-3 NE-10) did not penetrate the Hound defense until 33 minutes into the first half. At the 33:27 mark, Adelphi's Caelan Hueber accepted a pass from the left side and took a shot that landed just inside the right post to lead Assumption 1-0.
With their offense firing, Adelphi notched another goal just six minutes later when a pass from the middle found its way to Panther Juan Aguiar. Aguiar found the bottom left of the net to down the Hounds 2-0.
The Hounds picked up the defensive effort in the second period, allowing just seven shots by the Panthers, compared to 11 in the first half. Despite the stronger defensive showing in the second, the Hounds were unable to get an offense going, finishing the match with a total of six shots, none on goal.
The Panthers held the advantage in shots, 18-6 while posting three corner kicks in the first half compared to Assumption's zero.
In the second half, however, the Hounds earned two corner kicks while Adelphi posted none.
Assumption is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, when the squad hosts Saint Anselm at the Assumption College Multi-Sport Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
