Ackerman, Conley Pace Hounds in 59-40 Win

Easton, Mass. (November 15) -- Led by 17 points by junior Kelly Conley (Ellington, Conn./Ellington) and 13 from senior Caitlin Ackerman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South), the Assumption College women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 59-40 victory over Dominican College on Saturday afternoon in the Stonehill Tip-Off Classic at Merkert Gym. Both Conley and Ackerman earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.

This marks the fourth straight season that the Hounds have begun the season with a 2-0 mark.

Assumption jumped out to an early 8-4 lead over the first 5:12, capped by a layup from Conley for the Hounds. The Chargers came alive though with a 12-4 run over the next 5:44 to seize a 16-12 edge after a pair of free throws by Sara Ismail. Dominican continued to lead 20-17 with 5:48 left in the half before Assumption closed the period on an 8-0 run to take a 25-20 lead into the break. Conley tallied five straight points for Assumption to end the run, including a three with five seconds remaining.

Ackerman stretched the lead to seven in the early moments of the second period and Conley pushed the lead into double digits for the first time at 34-24 following a three with 16:58 remaining. Assumption led by at least 10 over the remainder of the game and by as many as 21 with 2:03 left before picking up the non-conference win.

Conley led the Hounds with 17 points to go along with six rebounds, while Ackerman posted 13 points and tied for the team high in rebounds with nine. Sophomore Jo Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) picked up nine boards as well to go along with seven points in the 19-point win.

For Dominican, three Chargers finished with eight points, including Ismail who also tied for the team lead in rebounding with Deja Gabbidon with eight boards each.

The Hounds shot 36.1 percent from the field in the game while holding the Chargers to 25 percent shooting from the field. Assumption forced New Haven into 20 turnovers and held a 48-40 rebounding advantage for the game, including a 17-13 edge on the offensive glass.

Assumption opens Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday, November 19th as the Hounds host Bentley University for a 5:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym.
