Ice Hockey Falls at Framingham State

Box Score

Framingham, Mass. (December 10) -- Following a four-game win streak, the Assumption College men's ice hockey team suffered a narrow 3-2 loss at Framingham State on Wednesday evening in a non-conference matchup at Loring Arena. Junior Alex Erban (Attleboro, Mass. / Mount Saint Charles) posted his seventh goal of the season in the loss.

The Hounds fall to 5-8 on the season while the Rams improve to 2-6-1 with the victory.

The Rams were the first to get on the board, finding the back of the net with under six minutes remaining in the opening period. Framingham State's Jay Nicholls received a pass off a face off that led to the 1-0 lead.

Framingham State extended the lead just four minutes into the second period. Junior Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, Conn. / Glastonbury) deflected an attempt by the Rams' Ricky O'Connor before Melvin Nichols knocked in the rebound to put the Hounds down by two.

Assumption cut the Ram's lead in half with 4:28 remaining in the second period when Erban capitalized on a power play. The junior found his way past Framingham State goalie Alesso Muggli, unassisted, and now ranks second on the squad with seven goals.

Framingham State once again extended the lead to two with just 19 seconds left in the second, sending the teams to the third period with the Hounds trailing 3-1.

Freshman Brian Farrell (Island Park, N.Y. / West Boca) attempted to spark a Greyhound comeback in the 11th minute of the third period. Farrell notched his second goal of the season, unassisted, after making a move then firing into the back of the net.

With just less than one minute left, the Hounds pulled Hemhauser from goal in favor of an additional skater to tie the score. Senior Matt Dalton (Medway, Mass. / Catholic Memorial) fired a shot on Muggli with six seconds left on the clock, but Muggli saved the shot to close the game.

The Greyhounds outshot the Rams 34-30 overall while Framingham State held a slight 31-30 advantage in face offs. Hemhauser added 27 saves to his impressive season total in his 59:28 between the pipes, compared to 32 for Muggli.

Assumption is set to return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 6, when they host Fitchburg State at Buffone Arena at 7:35 p.m.
