Bridgeport, Conn. (December 19) -- The Assumption College women's basketball team, led by double-digit scoring performances from five Hounds, claimed a road victory at the University of Bridgeport by a score of 77-43 on Friday evening. Junior Kelly Conley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) led all scorers with 14 points, followed closely by sophomore Allison Stoddard (East Lyme, Conn. / East Lyme) who tallied 13.

With the victory, the Hounds, who are currently ranked 24th in the D2SIDA national poll and receiving votes in the USA Today national poll, improve to 8-2 on the season while Bridgeport falls to 1-8 overall.

After the Purple Knights claimed the first possession on the tipoff, Stoddard put the Hounds on the board first with a breakaway layup to set the tone for the Hounds.

Assumption started the first half with a dominant offensive front, reaching double figures less than four minutes into the game, as junior Ann Marie Idusuyi (Lynn, Mass. / St. Mary's) netted two free throws to put the Hounds ahead 10-4.

A three-pointer from sophomore Shayla Hubbard (Laconia, N.H. / New Hampton Prep) kept the Greyhound momentum going, extending the lead to 15-4 with 14:39 left in the half. 

The Purple Knights responded with a quick layup to make it 15-6 followed by a steal and a fast-break layup by Conley to regain the 11-point lead.

With just over 10 minutes left on the clock, sophomore Kelly Carey (Long Beach, N.Y. / Holy Trinity) drained a three from the bottom left corner, her first of three on the day, to increase the Assumption lead to 23-9.

Near the end of the second half, the Purple Knights picked up the pace, pulling within 12 points and forcing a Greyhound timeout. 

Assumption rallied back, however, on an 11-5 run capped by a three pointer from Stoddard from the bottom right corner, to elevate the Greyhound lead to 17.  

The squads went into the break with Assumption leading 42-25, fueled by a 10-point performance from senior Caitlin Ackerman (Nashua, N.H. / Nashua South) and eight points from Idusuyi. Ackerman also led Assumption with six boards in the first half.

Assumption shot 50 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from behind the arc in the first half. The Hounds went 8-10 at the stripe while Bridgeport went 1-1 from the line. The Purple Knights shot 34.4 percent from the floor in the first half, 20 percent from three-point land.

The first 1:30 of the second half saw scoreless play, broken up by a jumper in the paint from Bridgeport's Jennifer Kucukkaya, narrowing the gap to 42-27. Back-to-back Carey threes pushed the Greyhound lead to 48-27, their first 20-point lead of the game, and forced a Bridgeport timeout.

Carey's quick six points sparked an 11-point run by the Greyhounds, including two from the line by Conley and another three from Hubbard to make the score 53-27.

After Bridgeport's Jenna Hoffman broke the streak on a fast-break layup, the Hounds posted another quick four points on a Hubbard jumper and a layup from freshman Kiera O'Donnell (Cheshire, Conn. / Holy Cross).

The Greyhound offense continued to dominate the court throughout the second half that included three more from behind the arc, two from Stoddard and one from Conley.

Assumption went 10-of-25 from the floor in the second half (40 percent) for a cumulative 25-of-55 (45.5 percent) on the day. The Hounds shot 85 percent from the line (17-of-20) and 47.6 from behind the three-point arc (10-of-21). Stoddard and Carey each posted a trio of three-pointers on the day.

Conley led the hounds with 14 points and five rebounds while going seven-for-eight at the line. Stoddard added 13 points and five rebounds.

Also in double figures for the Hounds was Hubbard (12), Carey (11) and Ackerman (10). Ackerman also notched eight rebounds while Hubbard added six.

Bridgeport shot 30.9 percent from the floor, 16.7 from three and 85.7 from the stripe. 

Assumption is scheduled to return to action on Sunday, Dec. 21 at Bloomfield. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
