Worcester, Mass. (September 24) -- The Assumption College men's soccer team (1-4, 1-1 NE-10) earned its first win of the season at home on Wednesday night with a 1-0 shutout over American International College (4-3, 1-2 NE-10). Sophomore Ethan Morrow (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Hyde) netted the game-winning goal for the Hounds, his first of the season.
Morrow earned the Hounds the lead just over 11 minutes into the first period, setting the tone for the rest of the match. The sophomore gained control of a kick from the other side of the field, dribbled through defenders and blasted a shot that landed perfectly placed in the top left corner of the net to give Assumption the 1-0 advantage.
Assumption held the lead throughout the remainder of the first period and kept the Yellow Jackets at bay throughout the second to claim the win.
The Hounds posted 10 shots, five on goal, compared to 15 shots, eight on goal for AIC while holding the edge in corner kicks (4-3).
Leading Assumption on the offensive front, sophomore Sarandon Dias (Swansea, Mass. / Bishop Stang), junior Glenn LiBassi (North Scituate, R.I. / LaSalle Academy) and sophomore Hector Sola-Morla (Guaynabo, P.R. / Colegio San Ignacio) each posted two shots, one on goal.
Junior Dana King (Windham, Maine / Windham) followed up his career-high 14-save game on Saturday with another impressive performance between the posts. He tallied eight saves on the evening, earning his first shutout of the season.
The Hounds wrap up their four-game home stand on Saturday, Sept. 27 as they host Franklin Pierce at the Multi-Sport Stadium at 7 p.m.
