Worcester, Mass. (September 27) -- The Assumption College men's soccer team (1-4-1, 1-1-1 NE-10) played to a 2-2 draw with the visiting Franklin Pierce Ravens (3-3-1, 1-2-1 NE-10) on Saturday night at home at the Multi-Sport Stadium in Worcester, Mass. Two separate Hounds posted their first goals of the season in the win.

Sophomore Sarandon Dias (Swansea, Mass. / Bishop Stang) kicked off the scoring for the Greyhounds just before the end of the first half. He accepted a corner kick from junior Nemanja Kaurin (South Portland, Maine / South Portland) in the 41st minute and found the back of the net to give Assumption the 1-0 lead heading into the half.

In the second half, both teams fired up the offense, beginning with an equalizing goal from the Ravens' Marius Preber and followed just four minutes later by another go-ahead goal from the Hounds. This time, it was sophomore Hector Sola-Morla (Guaynabo, P.R. / Colegio San Ignacio) to score for Assumption, making the score 2-1.

In a game that looked to be heading into the books for the Hounds, an Assumption foul in the box allowed a penalty kick by FPU with just 10 minutes left in regulation. The Ravens' Carlos Alvarez sneaked a shot past Assumption keeper Dana King (Windham, Maine / Windham) for the tying goal.

Both teams battled it out throughout two overtime periods, but neither was able to gain the advantage.

Franklin Pierce out-shot the Hounds 25-16 and held the edge in corner kicks 13-5. Defensively, King tallied 12 saves in his 110 minutes between the posts, compared to just eight for Franklin Pierce's Jordan LeGuyader.

Leading the offensive attack for the Greyhounds was Sola-Morla, who posted three shots, all on goal, followed by senior Troy Lamagna (South Glastonbury, Conn. / Glastonbury), who also tallied three shots on the day.

Dias and freshman Dillon Foley (Natick, Mass. / Natick) also demonstrated an accurate shooting percentage. Both posted just two shots but landed both on goal. 

Assumption returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 30 as they travel to Merrimack for another NE-10 match-up. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
