Colchester, Vt. (September 6) -- Despite leading the boards in shots and corner kicks, the Assumption College men's soccer team (0-2) fell to Saint Anselm (1-1) by a score of 2-0 Saturday to mark the end of its opening weekend.  

Following the weekend's competition, sophomore Matt Gilson (Cumberland, R.I. / Mount Saint Charles Academy) and sophomore Hector Sola-Morla (Guaynabo, P.R. / Colegio San Ignacio) were named to the 2014 Catholic Cup All-Tournament team for their efforts.

The first goal of the match came just over 16 minutes into the first half when a corner kick by Saint Anselm's Jack Heintzelman slipped through the hands of Assumption goalie Dana King (Windham, Maine / Windham). The goal came off of one of only two shots by the Hawks in the first half. 

Assumption was able to hold off Saint Anselm throughout the rest of the half, posting eight shots compared to just two for the Hawks, and went into the second half trailing by one.

Despite collecting four corner kicks to the Hawk's one in the second period, Saint Anselm scored again just over 82 minutes into the match to clinch the 2-0 shutout victory.

Assumption led the field with 12 shots, three on goal, compared to just seven, five on goal, for the Hawks. 

The Hounds also posted seven corner kicks compared to five for Saint Anselm.

King registered three saves in 90 minutes between the posts, equal to the Hawks' Stephen McLeod.

Assumption returns to action Sunday, Sept. 14 as it hosts Roberts Wesleyan in its home opener at the Multi-Sport Stadium in Worcester, Mass. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
