The Penmen came out on fire in the first period, notching three goals on a hat trick by Jay Sylvia within the first nine minutes of play. Sylvia was assisted by Joe Collins on all three goals, along with Dane Caracino on two.
Following the early 3-0 deficit, the Hounds called a timeout to regroup before freshman Tommy Mahoney (Braintree, Mass. / Braintree) buried his second goal of the season. Mahoney was assisted by senior Matt Dalton (Medway, Mass. / Catholic Memorial) on the play, who notched his first career goal against SNHU in the squads' last meeting on Jan. 17. Dalton registered his second assist of the season with the pass.
Assumption scored again midway through the second period when senior captain Brennen Shaw (Presque Isle, Maine / Brewster Academy) found the back of the net on a Greyhound power play. Shaw, assisted by senior Ben Kuzma (East Haven, Conn. / East Haven), fired past Penmen goalie Matthew Macinnis to bring the Hounds within one (3-2).
It was Collins who tallied the insurance goal for Southern New Hampshire just less than two minutes later at 12:30 in the second period. The goal marked the final of the contest as both teams were rendered scoreless in the third.
