THE BASICS:

- The Lead: The Assumption College football team scored 16 points in a 34-second span of the fourth quarter to key a rally past Southern Connecticut for a 60-50 road victory over the Owls at Jess Dow Field. The win extends Assumption's winning streak to five straight as the Hounds have taken four in a row in the all-time series with Southern Connecticut.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Hounds piled up 326 yards on the ground, including a career-high 184 yards from senior James Ward (New Haven, Conn./Williston Northampton). Junior Alex Shain (Sanford, Maine/Sanford) also piled up a 100-yard day as he rushed for 124 yards on 14 carries that included three touchdowns as he now has five 100-yard rushing performances in 2015.
- Freshman receiver Deonte Harris (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) was the team's leading receiver as he caught seven passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns, including a 51-yard scoring strike in a high-scoring fourth quarter. The 100-yard receiving game is the first for Harris in his collegiate career.
- Quarterback Brendan Tobey (Lynn, Mass./Malden Catholic) completed 11 passes on the afternoon that included three touchdown passes in the win. He finished the game with 185 yards and now has a trio of games with three touchdowns each.
- Defensively, junior captain Jarrod Casey (Milford, Mass./Bridgton Academy) led the Hounds with 17 total tackles, while Andrew Benson (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgwater) also added a 14-tackle effort in the victory.
- Assumption is currently receiving votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II National Poll.
- The 6-1 start for the Hounds is the first for the program since the 1994 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Southern Connecticut built to an early 21-7 lead just 10 seconds into the second quarter as Seimou Smith caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Robert Nittolo. The Hounds cut the lead to just 28-24 at the half as Shain scored from 24 yards out for his first of three rushing touchdowns on the game.
- Assumption trailed 35-24 early in the third period after a four-yard touchdown by John Moscatel before the Hounds ignited a 22-0 scoring run for the team's first lead of the contest.
- The Hounds cut the lead to 35-31 with 11:06 on the clock in the third after a 29-yard touchdown catch from sophomore Ashton Grant (Manchester, Conn./Manchester). That began a quick scoring run as the Hounds found the end zone with both Shain and Ward in that stretch, along with a safety, to take control at 46-35 with 11:46 remaining in the game.
- Assumption sealed the win with two late touchdowns as Harris caught a 51-yard scoring strike and Shain rumbled in from 22 yards out to cap a four-play, 77-yard drive.
