- The Lead: The Assumption College football team ran its winning streak to six straight as the Hounds outscored American International 21-0 in the second half to power to a 32-7 road win over the Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon. The game was broadcast nationally on ESPN 3.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Senior James Ward (New Haven, Conn./Williston Northampton) led the Hounds on the ground with 89 rushing yards, while junior Alex Shain (Sanford, Maine/Sanford) picked up 85 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon.
- Freshman receiver Deonte Harris (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) had a game-high eight receptions for43 yards, while sophomore tight end Cody Lynn (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) led the team with 58 receiving yards.
- Quarterback Brendan Tobey (Lynn, Mass./Malden Catholic) completed 16-of-28 pass attempts for 103 yards while also throwing a touchdown pass of 13 yards to sophomore Ashton Grant (Manchester, Conn./Manchester).
- Defensively, junior captain Jarrod Casey (Milford, Mass./Bridgton Academy) led the Hounds with 12 total tackles, including 11 tackles in the first half alone.
- Assumption is receiving votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II National Poll for the second straight week.
- The 7-1 start for the Hounds is the best start ever for the Assumption football program.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hounds got on the board just 3:11 into the game as Grant pulled down a 13-yard scoring pass from Tobey to cap off a 10-play, 73-yard drive.
- Assumption posted a pair of safeties in the first quarter, while AIC picked up a touchdown as Ryheime Moore hauled in a 32-yard catch.
- Shain scored on a pair of two-yard touchdown runs as he now has a league-leading 12 rushing touchdowns on the season.
- Freshman Deonte Harris (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to a wide open Lynn with 4:07 left in the third. The play appeared to be a reverse before Harris pulled up and fired the scoring pass.
