- The Lead: On Senior Day, senior Sarah Frahm (Salem, N.H./Salem) took a pass off a penalty corner from classmate Allison Juneau (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) and turned it into the game-winning goal as the No. 8 Assumption College field hockey team defeated Bentley University 1-0 in overtime. The win gives the Hounds a bye into the Northeast-10 Tournament semifinals as Assumption earns the No. 2 seed in the championship. It's also the program's first regular-season championship as the Hounds finished tied with Adelphi for the league's regular-season crown.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption didn't allow a shot on goal by Bentley in the first half and only allowed one in regulation before the Falcon offense came to life in the overtime. Both teams had three shots in the overtime as the two teams played six-on-six.
- On the game-winning play, Juneau played it to the top of the circle to Frahm, who slammed home her seventh goal of the season as Assumption now has seven shutout victories in 2015.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Hounds outshot the Falcons by a convincing 15-4 margin, including 7-1 in the second half alone.
- Assumption held a commanding 13-5 advantage in penalty corner chances as well, including four in the overtime alone that led up to the game-winning play.
- Juneau picked up her league-leading eighth defensive save of the season in the win as she now has 16 for her career.
- Assumption is currently ranked No. 3 in the NCAA regional rankings and No. 8 in this week's National College Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II National Poll.
- Sophomore Bridget Boyle (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Regional) made two saves in net for Assumption in the win, while Evelyn Schaedel had 10 stops in the loss for the Falcons.
UP NEXT:
- The Hounds earn a bye into the Northeast-10 Tournament Semifinals and will host a semifinal game on Friday, November 6th beginning at 7 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
