- The Lead: After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Assumption College field hockey team rattled off four unanswered goals to close the game as the Hounds defeated Dowling by a 4-1 final in non-conference play on Monday afternoon. The win marks the seventh straight for the Hounds and is fourth-longest winning streak in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Dowling got on the board at the 23:59 mark as Melissa Fuerst knocked in a ball after a scramble in front of the net for the 1-0 lead. Assumption answered just 2:46 later as senior Maria Beatrice (West Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) knocked in her second goal of the season off a penalty corner to send the game into the break tied at 1-1.
- The Hounds went in front to stay just 3:49 into the second as senior Sarah Frahm (Salem, N.H./Salem) took a pass from senior Kiley Colucci (Gloucester, R.I./St. Mary Academy) for the 2-1 advantage. That play also began off of a penalty corner.
- Sophomore Belle Ives (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional) tallied the last two goals of the game for the Hounds, including the fourth goal for the visitors that also began off a penalty corner. Ives now has four goals on the season. Assisting on the goals were senior Taylor Chase (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) and sophomore Amanda Frank (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Assumption held a commanding 14-6 advantage in shots and a 16-5 edge in penalty corners, including a 10-2 margin in the second half alone.
- Sophomore Bridget Boyle (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Regional) made four saves in net for Assumption in the win, while Ariana Ovadia had five stops in the loss for the Golden Lions.
- Colucci now stands at 91 career points with 32 goals and 27 assists. She is now just one point shy of the Assumption career point scoring record, which is held by AC Hall of Famer Anne Mingolelli `01.
