HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption jumped on the board just 6:09 into the first quarter as Tobey got around the right edge and made it just inside the pylon from three yards out for the 7-0 advantage.
- Special teams contributed to the team's field goal from 20 yards out by Tracy as the Hounds blocked a punt and recovered at the two yard line before Tracy converted the turnover into the 10-0 edge.
- To close the first half, the Assumption College defense came up with a stop on fourth and goal from the one as the Hounds took the 10-0 lead into the break.
- New Haven got on the board with 10:22 remaining in the third quarter as Henry Adegunle pulled down a 28-yard touchdown in double coverage to cut the lead down to 10-7. The Chargers then forced a turnover on the ensuing kickoff and recovered the fumble at the Assumption 28 yard line. New Haven turned the mistake into points as Danny Stock knocked in a career-long 43 yard field goal with 8:53 on the clock to tie the game at 10-10.
- The Hounds went back in front at 16-10 in the final seconds of the third quarter as senior James Ward (New Haven, Conn./Williston Northampton) went up the middle from seven yards out to cap a 10-play, 56-yard drive. The two-point conversion attempt on the play was unsuccessful as the Hounds held the six-point lead.
- With 10:12 remaining in the game, the Chargers went for it on fourth down and as Ajee Patterson was trying to convert, junior Bakari Blunt (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Burke) picked off Patterson and took it back 76 yards up the near sideline for the 23-10 advantage. New Haven drove into Assumption territory on the following possession, but that was ended on an interception by Hounds senior Kendall Dardy-Jones (Dorchester, Mass./St. Sebastian's School).
- Trevor Officer found the end zone for New Haven with 4:09 left as he rumbled in from eight yards out to cap a seven-play, 54-yard drive as the Chargers pulled within 23-17. That was as close as the Chargers would get though as a last-second Hail Mary on the final play gave the Hounds the single-digit victory.
