THE BASICS:

- The Lead: On the opening night of the Assumption Tip-Off Classic, the Assumption College women's basketball team got off to a quick start, en route to 68-58 home win over Dominican College on Friday evening. The Hounds are receiving votes in the D2SIDA National Poll, which is voted on by a panel of athletic communications directors from across the nation.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Assumption jumped out to a quick 17-5 lead just 4:18 into the game behind a trio of three-pointers from junior Allison Stoddard (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme). Assumption led by as many as 13 points in the first, en route to a 26-15 edge after one quarter.

- The Chargers opened up the second quarter on a 13-0 run to seize the 28-26 advantage with 2:40 left before halftime as a jumper by Lisa Bouffard put the visitors up. Assumption closed the half on a 9-2 run though to take a 35-30 lead into the break.

- The Hounds turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter though, holding Dominican to just four points as the hosts built to a 50-34 lead after three. Dominican cut the lead to single digits in the final period of play, but the Hounds knocked down a number of free throws down the stretch to seal the 10-point win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption outrebounded Dominican by a commanding 50-27 margin that included a 16-6 advantage on the offensive glass.

- Stoddard led all scorers with 21 points as she knocked down 5-of-7 three-point chances and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line.

- The Hounds shot 56.3 percent from three-point land, hitting 9-of-16 chances. Senior Kelly Conley (Ellington, Conn./Ellington) was among those who hit three-pointers as she finished with 15 points.

- Three Chargers finished in double figures, led by a 13-point outing by Aliyah Alston.
