THE BASICS:

-Score: Assumption 5, UMass Dartmouth 5 - OT

-Records: Assumption (1-2-1, 1-1 NE-10); UMass Dartmouth (0-3-2)

-The Lead: The Assumption College ice hockey team got out to a 5-2 lead in the second period before UMass Dartmouth tied the game 5-5 in a contest that ultimately resulted in an overtime tie on Thursday night on the road. Five separate Hounds scored on the night while junior Paul Amarone (Hamden, Conn. / Trinity-Pawling) posted two assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead when senior Brandon Bete (Greenfield, Mass. / Northfield Mount Hermon) found the back of the net just 4:26 into the frame, unassisted.

-UMD tied it up just over four minutes later when Mike Kelly scored on a power play before Assumption's Kevin Murphy (North Conway, NH / Kennett) regained the lead with a goal at 14:00 to send the Hounds into the second period up 2-1. Amarone and junior Nick Fenuccio (Keene, N.H. / Keene) assisted on the play.

-The Hounds outscored UMass Dartmouth 3-2 in the second period to take a 5-3 advantage heading into the third. Freshman Dante Tomassini (North Branford, Conn. / Trinity Pawling), senior Alex Erban (Attleboro, Mass. / Mount Saint Charles) and sophomore Tommy Mahoney (Braintree, Mass. / Braintree) scored for the Hounds in the period while senior Pat Trainor (Auburn, Mass. / Auburn), Amarone, sophomore Cam Laughlin (Natick, Mass. / The Governor's Academy) and freshman Matt Damelio (Rochester, N.Y. / Northwood) notched assists.

-In the final period of regulation, UMD tallied two unanswered goals to tie the contest at 5-5 before a scoreless overtime period yielded the final score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Overall, UMass Dartmouth outshot the Hounds 54-34, largely led by a 20-8 advantage in the third period. 

-Erban led the Hound offense with five shots on goal, while Bete, Murphy and Mahoney followed with four apiece.

-Both teams were successful on two power-play attempts on the day. The Hounds went 2-for-7 while UMD was 2-for-4.

-Reigning NE-10 Goaltender of the Week Nick Commesso (Marshfield, Mass. / The Governor's Academy) posted 49 saves in his 65 minutes between the pipes on the night. In comparison, UMD goaltender Drew Michals notched 29 saves in net.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:

-Bete's goal marks his fourth of the season to lead the Hounds.

-Tomassini's goal marks the first collegiate goal of his career.

-Commesso's 49 saves marks a season high, topping his previous season-best 21 against Stonehill and Franklin Pierce.

-Assumption is schedule to return to action on Saturday, Nov. 21 as they travel to Southern New Hampshire to resume NE-10 competition at 5 p.m. Following the road contest, the Hounds return home to host three-straight match ups on Nov. 24, 28 and 29 at Buffone Arena.
