THE BASICS:

- The Lead: On Wednesday evening at the SNHU Fieldhouse, No. 16 ranked Assumption dropped a 67-57 final to Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action. The loss is the second straight for the Hounds, while the Penmen improve to a perfect 7-0 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first quarter, neither time led by more than three as the Hounds took an 8-7 lead with 4:51 on the clock following an easy layup from senior Kelly Conley (Ellington, Conn./Ellington). The Hounds extended the lead to three at 14-11 with 1:27 left after a layup from senior Ann Marie Idusuyi (Lynn, Mass./St. Mary's). The Penmen closed the period on a quick 5-0 run though, capped by a three from Kylie Lorenzen, for the 16-14 edge thru one.
- SNHU pushed the scoring run to 11-0 before freshman Morgan O'Donnell (Easton, Mass./Ursuline Academy) ended the scoring drought of 7:44 for the Hounds. Boosted by four straight points from O'Donnell, Assumption closed the first half on a 12-2 run that was capped by a three at the buzzer from Conley. Conley led the Hounds with 10 points in the period as the Hounds held the slim 26-24 edge despite 27.8 percent shooting in the half.
- After a basket with 4:50 left in the third by junior Jo Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) gave Assumption the 37-31 lead, the Penmen answered with an 8-2 run to tie the game at 39-39 after a layup from Jennifer Shelp. The teams traded the lead over the remaining 2:47 of the period before the Penmen took a 44-42 edge into the final quarter after two free throws late from Lorenzen.
- O'Donnell tied the game early in the fourth before six quick SNHU points pushed the lead to 50-44 with 6:33 left, forcing an Assumption timeout. The lead swelled to eight at 57-49 after a three-point play from Erin Doherty before back-to-back threes from Conley and Allison Stoddard (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) cut the lead to just two and forced a Penmen timeout with 2:07 remaining. The Penmen ended the game on a 10-2 run though to seal the 10-point victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Conley led the Hounds with 16 points, while Stoddard and O'Donnell each added 10 points. For the Penmen, Lorenzen scored 15 points to lead three SNHU players in double figures.
- Overall, the Hounds held a 40-37 rebounding advantage that included a 17-11 edge on the offensive glass. For the game, the Hounds forced 16 SNHU turnovers and converted those into 18 points.
- Assumption is ranked No. 16 in the D2SIDA National Poll and is receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll. In addition, the Hounds are ranked No. 2 in this week's D2SIDA East Region Poll.
