Box Score

Foxboro, Mass. (February 4) -- The Assumption College men's ice hockey team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference match-up on the road against Stonehill College on Wednesday night by a score of 9-1. Sophomore Paul Amarone (Hamden, Conn. / Trinity-Pauling) netted the lone goal for Assumption on the evening, registering his fourth of the season.

The loss marks the second of the season against the Skyhawks. The two squads faced off on November 14 in which the Hounds fell by a narrow score of 3-2.

Assumption now falls to 7-14 overall, 3-6 NE-10, while the Skyhawks improve to 11-5-3, 5-0-1 NE-10 with the victory.

Stonehill kicked the game off just over five minutes into the first period when Dan Graham put his team on the board. Graham's tally was followed just over five minutes later by a power-play shot by Robbie Dorgan to give Stonehill a 2-0 lead.

Three more Skyhawk goals followed in the second period, all within a span of 1:46, to put the Hounds behind by a commanding 5-0 score.

In the 10th minute of the second period, Amarone helped the Hounds avoid the shutout. The sophomore capitalized on a power-play opportunity, assisted by freshman Matt Cowles (Farmington, Conn. / Avon Old Farms) and junior Alex Erban (Attleboro, Mass. / Mount Saint Charles). The assists mark Cowles' ninth of his career and Erban's seventh of the season.

With the deficit reduced to four, Stonehill struck again in the 13th minute of the second on another from Graham. The score was followed by another power-play goal to close the period before the Skyhawks tallied two more in the third, including a short-handed goal at 19:42 for the win.

The Skyhawks dominated the offense, posting 46 shots on goal to Assumption's 27. The Hounds were able to capitalize on 1-of-6 power-play opportunities while Stonehill went 4-for-4 in the category.

Junior Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, Conn. / Glastonbury) spent 24:16 between the posts, registering 16 saves while allowing four goals, before freshman Mario Pizzeri (Shrewsbury, Mass. / St. John's) relieved him. Pizzeri collected 21 saves in 35:44 and allowed five goals.

The Greyhounds will return to action Saturday, Feb. 7, at home to host Daniel Webster for an exhibition game. The contest will be followed by Assumption's third game against the Skyhawks on Feb. 14 at Buffone Arena.
