THE BASICS:
-Score: Assumption 3, Wentworth 3 - OT

-The Lead: Three Hounds scored on Sunday evening as the Assumption College ice hockey team played to a 3-3 draw in overtime with the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards at Buffone Arena in Worcester, Mass. The Hounds will host two more contests at Buffone this week.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-It was Wentworth to gain the first advantage with an even-strength goal at 12:18 in the first period, scored by Adam Lane.
-Just over three minutes later, the Hounds responded with a goal off the stick of junior Ryan Gomez (Wayne, N.J. / Wayne Valley), assisted by sophomore Matt Cowles (Farmington, Conn. / Avon Old Farms) and senior Brandon Bete (Greenfield, Mass. / Northfield Mount Hermon).
-Gomez found sophomore Brian Farrell (Island Park, N.Y. / West Boca) for the go-ahead goal in the 19th minute of the first to put the Hounds ahead by one.
-The lone goal of the second period came from Wentworth's Paul Filippone on a power play to even the score.
-Wentworth added another just 4:42 into the third to take a 3-2 lead before junior Kevin Murphy (North Conway, NH / Kennett) tied the game with just less than seven minutes left in regulation, assisted by sophomore Tommy Mahoney (Braintree, Mass. / Braintree).
-Neither team was able to find the back of the net in overtime for the eventual 3-3 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-Gomez led the Hounds with eight shots on goal as well as two points on one goal and one assist.
-Bete tallied seven shots for Assumption.
-Senior Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, Conn. / Glastonbury) posted 68 saves on the evening during his 65 minutes between the pipes.
-Wentworth's Ryan Hubbard registered 45 saves in 65 minutes.
-Overall, the Hounds were outshot by a substantial, 23-shot margin. The Leopards posted 71 to Assumption's 48.
-Wentworth went 2-for-4 in power-play attempts while the Hounds were 0-for-4.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
-Hemhauser's 68 saves marks a new career high for the senior.
-Gomez's two points increases his total for the season to 22. He continues to rank second in the NE-10 in overall points and first in the league in assists (15).
-Bete's assist increases his point lead in the conference to 27 while he continues to also hold the top spot in goals scored (16).
-As a defenseman, Cowles is currently ranked sixth in the NE-10 in assists with nine.
-This marks the fifth time that the Hounds have gone into overtime this season and they now post a 1-1-3 record in extra minutes.

-The Hounds return to action for two-straight home contests beginning with Daniel Webster on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 7:35 p.m. Assumption will resume NE-10 competition on Saturday, Jan. 23, against Stonehill for the Hounds' Mental Illness Awareness Game at 7:35 p.m.
