THE BASICS:

-Score: Assumption 2, Amherst 4

-Records: Assumption (8-9-3); Amherst (6-6-4)

-The Lead: Despite getting out to a 2-1 lead in the second period, the Assumption College ice hockey team fell to Amherst College on the road by a final score of 4-2. Junior Kevin Murphy (North Conway, NH / Kennett) and freshman Dante Tomassini (North Branford, Conn. / Trinity Pawling) were the pair to score for the Hounds on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-After a scoreless first period, Murphy put the Hounds up 1-0 in the ninth minute of the second, assisted by senior Alex Erban (Attleboro, Mass. / Mount Saint Charles).

-Amherst tied the game just two minutes later before the Hounds once again reclaimed the narrow one-goal lead at 16:29, scored by Tomassini and assisted by sophomores Tommy Mahoney (Braintree, Mass. / Braintree) and Brian Farrell (Island Park, N.Y. / South Kent School).

-In the third period, Amherst rattled off three straight to tie the contest, take the lead and add the insurance goal for the eventual 4-2 final. The Hounds found themselves in a six-on-three situation with 1:21 left in regulation but failed to convert.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Erban and senior Brandon Bete (Greenfield, Mass. / Northfield Mount Hermon) led the Assumption attack with five shots on goal apiece.

-Overall Assumption was outshot 48-25.

-Both teams went 0-for-1 in power-play attempts.

-Senior Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, Conn. / Glastonbury) takes the loss for Assumption dropping to 0-4-1 on the season. Hemhauser collected 44 saves in his 58:39 between the pipes while Amherst's Connor Girard posted 23 saves in 60 minutes.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:

-Tomassini's goal marks his second of the his collegiate career. The rookie now posts nine points on two goals and seven assists on the season.

-Murphy's goal marks his 10th of the season as he ranks second on the team in the category.

-Murphy is tied for third in the Northeast-10 in goals scored with 10 and a 0.62 goals per game average.
