Box Score

THE BASICS:

- Score: Adelphi 78, Assumption 76 (2OT)

- Records: Assumption (12-7, 8-6 NE-10) Adelphi (14-8, 7-7 NE-10)

- Location: Garden City, N.Y. (Center for Recreation and Sport)

- The Lead: Assumption rallied from 12 points down in the second half on Saturday afternoon before the Hounds dropped an eventual 78-76 double-overtime road final to Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Early on in the first, Assumption took a 6-0 lead before the Panthers tied the game at 11-11. The Hounds closed to within 16-15 with 31 seconds left in the first quarter on a three from junior Kelly Carey (Long Beach, N.Y./Holy Trinity) and eventually trailed by that margin heading to the break. In the second quarter, it was all Adelphi as the Panthers led by a 42-30 score at the half as Tara Flynn dropped in a three at the buzzer for the hosts.

- The third quarter was dominated by Assumption as the Hounds outscored the Panthers 20-11 in the period and trailed just 53-50 going into the final 10 minutes of regulation. A pull-up jumper from junior Allison Stoddard (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) closed Assumption within 45-39 early in the period and a free throw from sophomore Teneya McLaughlin (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran) with 23 seconds left in the third got the Hounds back to within one at 51-50.

- The teams tied the game up at 55-55 with 8:30 remaining in the fourth and the Hounds eventually took the lead at 62-60 with 4:10 left on a three from the left wing by Carey. Neither team led by more than two over the remainder of regulation before a Stoddard three at the buzzer was off the mark to send the game into the extra period tied at 64-64.

- In the first overtime, missed free throws were the story as the teams eventually headed into the second extra session tied at 69-69. In the second OT, junior Jo Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) scored four straight points and with 2:47 on the clock, she gave the Hounds a 73-72 lead after a layup in the right post. The teams traded the lead back and forth over the next two minutes before two Impellizeri free throws with 26 remaining made it 76-75 Hounds.

- A three-point play by Adelphi's Sierra Clark with 2.4 seconds remaining proved to be the difference as a Stoddard three at the buzzer was just off the mark.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption was led by a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double from Impellizeri, while both Carey and Stoddard posted 15-point efforts. Adelphi was paced by a 19-point day from Clark as Calli Balfour added 17. Both were off the bench as no Adelphi starter finished in double figures.

- The game marked the second double-overtime contest of the season for Assumption.

- Assumption is ranked No. 4 in this week's D2SIDA East Region Poll, rising two spots from last week's rankings.

UP NEXT:
