The Lead: Despite the Hound defense standing strong throughout the game, an early goal in the first half was enough, as they fell 1-0 to Stonehill in the NE-10 quarterfinal game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Skyhawk forward Kacie Smith got on the board first when she got a pass from Shea Kelly, which set her up with a drive at the top of the circle that went directly into the corner past Sarah Bodzinski (Southwick, Mass. / Southwick Tolland Regional).
- As time ran out in the first half Stonehill earned a penalty corner but
Allison Sheahan (Higganum, Conn. / Haddam-Killingworth) blocked the shot attempt on the fly.
- With 4:39 left in regulation Alexandra Gerew took a wide open shot on Bodzinski but she was able to deflect it wide with a diving save to give the offense another chance.
- Late in the second half the Hounds had an offensive push when senior Andrea Koslowski (Warren, Mass. / Quaboag Regional) got open space around the 25 yard line which set up the offense for a possible tip in, but they were unable to convert.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Skyhawks edged the Hounds in shots 20-7 and 9-4 in corners
- Bodzinski made eleven saves in the loss while Sara Freedman made one save in her shutout win.
