HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption opened the scoring six minutes into the game, after a great four-yard option keeper by quarterback Marc Monks (Annandale, N.J. / North Hunterdon) on fourth down to bring the ball down to the AIC 29-yard line. On the ensuing play, Dylan Oxsen (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth South) made a quick cut in the backfield and burst through the line and past the defense for a 29-yard score with 9:11 left in the period.
- AIC countered on its next drive, getting a 38-yard reception to put the team inside Assumption territory. However the Hound defense held tough and limited the Yellow Jackets to a 32-yard field goal.
- Midway through the second, the Hounds used 12 plays to get down to the AIC one-yard line. Oxsen nearly scored on the play, but was pushed out while diving for the pylon to set up fourth down. The junior took the carry and fought his way up the middle for the score and a 14-3 lead with 6:08 remaining in the half.
- With time winding in the half, Monks completed passes to Brandon Swain-Price (Stoughton, Mass. / Stoughton) & Sam Blake (Springfield, Mass. / East Longmeadow / Williston Northhampton) to bring the Hounds down to the 22-yard line with just five seconds left. After a timeout, Cole Tracy (Camarillo, Calif. / Newbury Park) drilled a 39-yard field goal as time expired for the 17-3 lead at the break.
- Assumption had a field goal blocked early in the third quarter but the team scored on its next drive. The biggest play was a 22-yard run by Doug Santos (Peabody Mass. / Peabody Veterans Memorial) to get down to the two-yard line, which was followed by an Alex Shain (Sanford, Maine / Sanford) touchdown run to make it 24-3 at 4:14.
- Monks concluded the scoring at the 8:25 mark of the fourth, as he found Ashton Grant (Manchester, Conn. / Manchester / East Coast Prep) in the corner of the endzone for a 19-yard touchdown reception to extend the lead to 31-3.
- The defense did the rest as they held AIC to -7 yards over its final three drives to secure the 28-point victory.
