HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game opened with both teams exchanging baskets, with neither team able to build a lead larger than three. Sophomore Morgan O'Donnell (Easton, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) made a layup while being fouled to give the Hounds a five point advantage (15-10), before senior Kelly Carey (Long Beach, N.Y. / Holy Trinity) connected on a three pointer to give Assumption its largest lead of the first quarter (18-12) with 49 seconds left to play. A layup by Saint Anselm with 17 seconds left were the last points of the quarter and sent both teams into the intermission with the score 18-14.
- The Hounds opened up the second quarter running an efficient offense, as junior Teneya McLaughlin (Milford, Conn. / Joseph A. Foran) hit a three just ten seconds into the action and senior Morgan O'Brien (Reading, Mass. / Reading) followed up with a three pointer of her own (24-16). A jumper by senior Allison Stoddard (East Lyme, Conn. / East Lyme) extended Assumption's lead to double-digits (26-16), which the Hounds were able to maintain as Carey knocked down a pair of free throws to end the half with the score 32-21.
- The third quarter proved to be a game of runs, as Impellizeri opened the quarter with four straight free throws and Carey made a layup to make the score 38-26. Saint Anselm went on a quick 6-0 run to pull within six points (38-32), but Assumption responded with a 5-0 run of its own as Impellizeri hit a pair of free throws and Morgan O'Brien hit a three pointer to re-up the Hounds lead to 43-32. An 8-2 run by the Hawks cut the Assumption lead to 45-40 with 41 seconds remaining in the quarter. Two free throws by junior Kiera O'Donnell (Cheshire, Conn. / Holy Cross) finished the scoring in the period as the Hounds went into the fourth quarter up 47-40.
- Morgan O'Donnell scored the first two baskets of the fourth quarter to push Assumption's lead to 51-40. Saint Anselm kept chipping away at the lead and brought the score to 58-52 with 01:40 left in regulation on a three pointer by Emma Daly. Assumption salted away the game with free throws by McLaughlin and Carey to win its fourth straight game and third straight NE10 game.
