The Lead: Freshman defenseman Matt Drake (Manchester, N.J./ Islanders Hockey Club (USPHL)) scored the game winning goal in the third period to lead the Hounds to a 3-1 victory over Western New England on Thursday evening. 

HOW IT HAPPEDNED

- With 7:00 minutes left in the first period the Golden Bears took the lead 1-0 when Matt O'Dea scored an unassisted goal.

- Hound forward Stephen Picard (Enfield, Conn. /Loomis Chaffee)) scored a short handed goal assisted by Tommy Mahoney (Braintree, Mass./ Boston Bandits (EHL)) to tie the game 1-1 with 8:44 left in the second period.

- With 4:56 remaining in the third period, Matt Drake (Manchester, N.J./Islander Hockey Club (USPHL)) scored an unassisted goal which was his first collegiate goal  

- Only 34 seconds later Paul Amarone (Hamden, Conn./Trinity-Pawling (Prep)) scored the insurance goal assisted from Nick Fenuccio (Kenne N.H./ Richmond Generals (MJHL)) and Drake. 

- The Golden Bears pulled their goaltender with 1:06 left but the Hound defense remained solid to seal the victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

- The Golden Bears out shot the Hounds 41-23 while both teams went 0 for 4  on the power play. 

- Assumption goaltender Nick Commesso (Marshfield, Mass./Walpole Express (AJHL)) made 40 saves in the win and Kevin Gollmer made 20 saves in the loss.

- After the winter break the Hounds are back at the Buffone Arena on January 6th to face Franklin Pierce.
