THE BASICS:
-Score: Assumption 4, Stonehill 8

-The Lead: The Assumption College ice hockey season ended on Saturday night after a hard fought battle at the Foxborough Sports Center in Foxborough, Mass. The Greyhounds ended their season in the NE-10 Semifinals with an 8-4 loss to the #1 seeded Stonehill Skyhawks.
Despite the first-round NE-10 disappointment, the Hounds cap off one of the most successful seasons in recent program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Hounds got out to a quick lead just 2:50 into the first period. Sophomore Brian Farrell (Island Park, N.Y. / South Kent School) fired a shot off of a rebound and buried the puck past Skyhawk goaltender William Palmer.
-Assumption held the lead for over 10 minutes before Stonehill responded with the equalizer off the stick of Robbie Dorgan on a power play. The Skyhawks' Richard Harris followed up with the go-ahead goal less than two minutes later to take a 2-1 lead.
-A scoring frenzy erupted in the second, kicked off by Stonehill five minutes into the period to take a 3-1 lead.
-NE-10 Player of the Year Brandon Bete (Greenfield, Mass. / Northfield Mount Hermon) responded just 15 seconds later with his first goal of the night, swiftly launching a shot into the top right corner of the net to bring the Hounds back within one, 3-2.
-Stonehill scored twice more in the frame to take a commanding 5-2 lead before junior Nick Fenuccio (Keene, N.H. / Keene) scored a clutch goal for the Hounds with 2:04 left in the second period. The goal put Assumption back in the hunt, just two goals down, 5-3.
-Stonehill came out quick in the third, posting one goal on a power play just less than four minutes into the stanza. The second came over 10 minutes later to make it 7-3 with 4:30 left to play.
-At 17:17, Bete took the puck up the left side and fired it into the top right corner of the net for the Hounds' final goal of the game, 7-4.
-The Skyhawks sealed the win with one more tally off the stick of Connor Tedesco for the 8-4 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-Bete, Farrell and junior Ryan Gomez (Wayne, N.J. / Wayne Valley) each led teh Hounds with two points. Bete notched two goals, Gomez two assists and Farrell one of each.
-Bete also led the Greyhound attack with 10 shots on goal. Dorgan led the Skyhawk offense with six shots on goal, as well as four points on two goals and two assists.
-The Hounds were outshot 35-27, posting 10 shots on goal in both the first and second periods before registering just seven in the third.
-Assumption finished 0-for-3 in power-play opportunities while Stonehill converted 3-of-5.
-Junior Nick Commesso (Marshfield, Mass. / The Governor's Academy) takes the loss for the Hounds and drops to 8-5-2 overall. The junior posted 15 saves in 35:52 before being relieved by freshman Brian Nazzaro (Braintree, Mass. / New Hampton) who followed up with 12 in 23:20.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
-The Hounds end the 2015-16 season registering one of the most successful seasons in recent program history. Assumption tallied nine wins for the first time in a season since the 2011-12 season when they won 13. The Hounds also posted an impressive five-win streak midway through the season.
-The squad also finished first in the NE-10 in scoring with 88 goals and boasted the 2016 NE-10 Player of the Year in Brandon Bete, and the NE-10 Coach of the Year in eighth year head coach Lance Brady.
In the NE-10
-Bete ends his final season leading the NE-10 in points (36) with Gomez right behind in second with 28. Farrell is also close behind the duo tied for fourth with 24.
-Gomez finishes his junior season first in assists (20) while Farrell follows tied for fourth with 14.
-Bete is also first first in goals (25), power-play points (12) and power-play goals (10) and was recently announced as semifinalist for the Joe Concannon Award, awarded to New England's best American-born hockey player in Division II/III.
-Junior Kevin Murphy (North Conway, NH / Kennett) finishes the season ranked fourth in goals scored in the league (12) and second in defenseman scoring with 15 points on 11 goals and four assists.
-Freshman Dante Tomassini (North Branford, Conn. / Trinity Pawling) completes his first year as a Hound tied for eighth in power-play points and tied for third in freshman scoring with 10 points on two goals and eight assists.
-Sophomore Matt Cowles (Farmington, Conn. / Avon Old Farms) finished his campaign tied for fourth in defenseman scoring with 12 points on one goal and 11 assists.
-In net, Commesso ties for first in save percentage (.918) with Stonehill's William Palmer and ranks second in winning percentage (.562).
In the Nation
-Bete ranks first in the nation among Division II/III student-athletes in goals per game with 1.00, tied for first in power-play goals with 10 and tied for eighth in the country in points per game (1.44).
-Gomez ranks 15th in the country with 0.83 assists per game.
-Overall, Assumption ranks 22nd in the nation in scoring offense, registering 3.52 goals per game.
