Men's Soccer Notches Third Consecutive Win, Drops Bentley 2-0

Box Score

THE BASICS:

- Score: Assumption 2, Bentley 0

- Records: Assumption (3-2, 2-0 NE-10); Bentley (0-4, 0-2 NE-10)

- Location: Worcester, Mass. (Multi-Sport Stadium)

- The Lead: The Assumption College men's soccer team recorded its second consecutive shutout and third win in a row, defeating Bentley University 2-0 in Saturday's Northeast-10 match up in Worcester, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The first half remained scoreless as Assumption and Bentley battled hard, but both teams were unable to score. Freshman Jason Lages (Edgartown, Mass. / Martha's Vineyard Regional) had the best scoring opportunity of the first half, beating the goalkeeper but hitting the cross bar on his shot.

- Assumption freshman Simon Trcka (Prague, Czech Republic / Thornton Academy) notched his second goal of the season in the 78th minute of the game. Trcka received a through ball from Matt Gilson (Cumberland, R.I. / Mount Saint Charles Academy) and ripped a shot over the keeper and under the crossbar to put Assumption up 1-0.

- Gilson added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute, when the senior lined up to take a free-kick and noticed the keeper was out of position. The senior asked the ref if he was good to go and bent the ball over the wall and right down the middle of the net. Bentley protested the goal but it was to no avail.

BEHIND THE NUMBERS:

- With the win, Assumption opens up Northeast-10 play a perfect 2-0 which is the first time in five years the Hounds have accomplished the feat.

- Assumption recorded its third consecutive victory, already surpassing last year's win total. It's the Hounds' first three game win streak since 2013.

- The Hounds out-shot the Falcons 7-3 in the first half and finished the game with a total of 17 shots to Bentley's eight.

- Freshman Brian Murray (Camas, Wash. / Camas) earned the win in net for the Hounds, posting his second consecutive shutout. Bentley's sophomore Harrison Rapant took the loss in net for the Falcons.

UP NEXT:

- The Hounds are back in action on Wednesday, September 21st, as the squad travels to Adelphi University for a Northeast-10 match-up with a start time of 7 p.m.
