The Lead: Cortland State led 4-0 after one period and a late second period goal by forward Stephen Picard (Enfield Conn./ Loomis Chaffee (Prep)) was the only Assumption goal of the evening as the Hounds dropped a 9-1 non conference match-up to Cortland State on Thursday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just 1:06 into the first period the Red Dragon forward Sean Perichak scored the first goal of the night. They followed up with two goals from Paul Fregeau and one from Andrew Gleason to head into the second with a 4-0 lead.
- Cortland added four more goals in the opening seven minutes of the second by Mike Crowley, Dan Broderick, Darren McCormick and Gleason for an 8-1 advantage.
- At 9:26 in the second the Hounds were able to end the Chris Bastone shutout when Picard scored off a pass from Matt Cowles (Farmington, Conn. / Avon Old Farms (Prep)) and Brian Farrell (Island Park, N.Y. / South Kent School (USPHL U18)).
- The only goal in the third period was McCormick's second of the night to make the final score 9-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Red Dragons out shot the Hounds 56 to 24 while both teams did not score on the power play.
- Hound goaltener Brian Nazzaro (Braintree, Mass./Walpole Express (EHL)) made eleven saves in the loss while goaltender David Zulauf (Rochester, Mich. / Bridgton Academy (Prep)) made ten saves and Robbie Campbell (Raritan, N.J. / New England Stars (NA3EHL)) made 26 saves in his relief effort
