THE BASICS:

- The Lead: The Assumption College women's basketball team traveled to New Haven and left with a victory, giving the Hounds 10 wins in their last 11 tries, including seven in NE10 Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- New Haven took advantage of a slow start by Assumption to start the game, taking an early 12-7 lead in the first quarter. Two free throws by senior Jo Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y. / St. Anthony's) and a three pointer by classmate Kelly Carey (Long Beach, N.Y. / Holy Trinity) tied the game at 12 points apiece. Carey connected on another three pointer and sophomore Morgan O'Donnell (Easton, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) made a layup as the Hounds went on a 10-0 run to take a 17-12 lead. The first quarter concluded with Assumption leading 21-16.

- Junior Kiera O'Donnell (Cheshire, Conn. / Holy Cross) opened the second quarter with a consecutive layups as Assumption opened up a 25-18 lead. After Impellizeri registered the next four points for the Hounds, New Haven pulled within three on a three pointer by Sianna Van Dyke (29-26). Carey responded with a three of her own and freshman Brittani LeBlanc (Townsend, Mass. / North Middlesex Regional) made a layup with 01:12 left in the half as Assumption went to the locker room up 34-28.

- Both teams exchanged baskets in the beginning of the third quarter, before a three pointer by senior Allison Stoddard (East Lyme, Conn. / East Lyme) gave the Hounds their biggest lead of the third quarter (41-33). New Haven went on a quick 6-0 run to make it a one possession game (41-39) with 03:11 left in the quarter. Impellizeri stopped the bleeding with a layup and Stoddard chipped In with a pair of free throws as Assumption built its lead back up to 45-39 heading into the final quarter of play.

- Impellizeri tallied the first four points for the Hounds in the final stanza as the Hounds led 49-43. After Stoddard made a layup, Impellizeri connected on two free throws to give Assumptionn a double-digit lead (53-43).  The Hounds were able to keep the Chargers at arms-length for the remainder of the game by maintaining their double-digit lead. Carey sealed the game with two free throws with 25 seconds left to help improve Assumption to 7-4 in NE10 play.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

- Impellizeri recorded her fourth double-double of the year, tallying a game high 20 points, 11 rebounds and four assists to lead the Hounds in both categories. Carey had a strong game, registering a season high 18 points, while Stoddard chipped in with 11 points.

- Khayla Trowell led the Chargers with 15 points, while Alexandria Kerr registered 10 points and a team leading 7 rebounds and 4 assists.

- As a team, Assumption shot 40.0% (20-50) from the field and 27.8% (5-18) from beyond the arc. New Haven shot 34.8% (16-46) from the floor and 16.7% (2-12) from three point land.

- Assumption won the turnover battle, 13-14, while converting those turnovers into 14 points. The Hounds also outrebounded the Chargers, 36-28, including a 14-12 edge on the offensive glass.
