THE BASICS:

The Lead: Leading just 44-40 entering the fourth, Assumption opened the quarter on a 12-2 run to pull away from American International on the road and earn a 66-56 victory for the team's eighth consecutive win on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Hounds trailed 6-2 midway through the first, before Kiera O'Donnell (Cheshire, Conn. / Holy Cross) got the offense going with a triple to pull within one. They fought back to even it 8-8 through ten minutes of action.

- AIC and Assumption continued to trade baskets over the first five minutes of the second and a Dana Watts three-point play put the Yellow Jackets on top 19-16 at 4:35. Kelly Carey (Long Beach, N.Y. / Holy Trinity) evened the game with a shot from downtown and the Hounds outscored the home team 3-1 over the last three minutes of the period for a slight 22-20 advantage.

- Carey opened the third with a three, but AIC wouldn't go away and actually pulled in front 38-36 at 4:28. Jaclyn Storey (Cumberland, Maine / Greely) tied up the game as part of a 8-2 run to conclude the period for a 44-40 lead.

- Assumption started the fourth on a 12-2 run, capped off by a Jo Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y. / St. Anthony's) layup at 5:33 for the 56-42 advantage. The Yellow Jackets did manage to pull within eight once, but the Hounds offense kept rolling as they missed just one shot over the final three minutes to earn the ten-point win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption's win was its eighth straight, the program's longest win streak since the 2012-13 season. The Hounds also improved to 5-3 in NE10 action, its fifth consecutive conference victory.

- The Hounds shot 42.4 percent from the floor and were just 6 of 22 from downtown while holding AIC to 2-for-10 from three and 42.3 percent shooting overall.

- Assumption outrebounded the Yellow Jackets 33-29 and its bench scored 23 points, compared to just two for the home team.

- Sophomore Morgan O'Donnell (Easton, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) scored 16 points with six rebounds and two steals in 23 minutes while Carey also added 16 points, including three triples.

- Allison Stoddard (East Lyme, Conn. / East Lyme) was in double figures with 12 points and three assists while Impellizeri chipped in six points, nine rebounds and three assists. 

- Watts and Jayda Moore scored 18 points apiece, while Imani Stepney was also in double figures with 13.

- Assumption seeks its ninth straight win when the team travels to play Le Moyne on Saturday at 12 pm.
