THE BASICS:

-The Lead: Assumption trailed 2-1 in the the second half before freshman Shannon Quinlan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville North) notched the game-tying goal, and the Hounds nearly pulled off the upset though ultimately falling 3-2 in overtime to No. 8 Pace on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Pace got on the board first, as Lieke van Nieuwenhuizen took a hard shot off the top of the cirlce after the Setters were awarded a penalty corner.
- Just 4:06 later, the Hounds took advantage of a penalty corner. Kolby Burger (Killingworth, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) fed freshman Alexa Mulvihill (Westbrook, Conn/Westbrook) at the top of the circle and she ripped it into the back of the cage to tie the game 1-1.
- With 10:12 left in the half Pace broke the tie and took the 2-1 lead when Samantha Gray redirected a hard pass from outside the circle past Hound goaltender Sarah Bodzinski (Southwick, Mass./ Southwick Tolland Regional).
- Assumption scored the only goal in the second half in the 43rd minute to tie the game 2-2. Quinlan had an open shot in the circle off a feed from senior Allison Sheahan (Higganum, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) to beat Pace goaltender Lesley Sanchez Alvarez on the left side.
- Just 2:22 into overtime, the Setters earned penalty corner. Halley Rose took a shot from the center of the circle past Bodzinski on the right side to secure the 3-2 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Assumption outshot Pace 16-14, but the Setters had the 8-7 advantage in penalty corners. Four different players registered points for the Hounds led by goals from Mulvihill and Quinlan.
- Bodzinski made two saves in the loss while Sanchez Alvarez made five saves to improve her record to 13-2.
