Box Score

THE BASICS:

- Score: Assumption 41, New Haven 6

- Records: Assumption (7-0, 6-0 NE10), New Haven (5-2, 4-2 NE10)

- Location: Worcester, Mass. (Multi-Sport Stadium)

- The Lead: In a battle for first place, the No. 14 Assumption defense had three interceptions and didn't give up a touchdown while junior Deonte Harris (Baltimore, Md. / Archbishop Curley) ran back two punts for touchdowns in leading the Hounds to a 41-6 victory over New Haven as the football program celebrated its 50th Anniversary.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Assumption scored on its first possession, driving 67 yards in ten plays and culminating in a Marc Monks (Annandale, N.J. / North Hunterdon) touchdown pass to Ashton Grant (Manchester, Conn. / Manchester / East Coast Prep) for the 7-0 lead with 10:51 left.

- Harris then gave the Hounds a 14-0 lead when he took a punt back 78 yards for his third punt return touchdown of the season, with 8:28 left in the quarter.

- Freshman Carlins Platel (Everett, Mass. / Everett) made a diving interception early in the second to give Assumption back the ball near midfield. The team drove the ball down the field and Dylan Oxsen (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth South) punched it in from one yard out on the 11th play for a 21-0 advantage.

- Senior Cole Tracy (Camarillo, Calif. / Newbury Park) extended the lead to 24-0 with only 3:21 remaining on a 29-yard field goal, though Danny Stock answered for the Chargers with a 37-yard attempt as time expired for a 24-3 margin at the half.

- New Haven gained just six yards on its first possession of the third and punted to Harris once again. He took it at the 24 and wove through the defense, making people miss for the 76-yard touchdown and 31-3 lead.

- Oxsen extended the lead to 38-3 with 9:56 remaining in the third as he rushed around the end 14 yards to the endzone. Tracy then pushed the lead to 41-3 four minutes later on a 51-yard field goal, the second-longest of his career.

- The Chargers put together a 16-play, 85-yard drive to open the fourth, but the defense held tight on third down, forcing another Stock field goal with 8:59 remaining. He made it from 23 yards for the 41-6 score as neither team was able to add to their total.
