The Lead: Junior midfielder Kolby Burger (Killingworth, Conn./ Haddam Killingworth) and sophomore forward Molly Quinlan (Fayetteville, N.Y./ Fayetteville-Manlius) each tallied a goal in Assumption's 6-2 loss to No. 4 Saint Anselm in their season opening game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hawks jumped to a quick 3-0 lead in the first half. Forwards Abby Walker, Emma Kincaid and midfielder Jackie Guillemette each registered a goal.
- Saint Anselm added two more goals to extend the lead to 5-0 when Mia Vecchione scored an unassisted goal and Michelle Lemelin added one off a penalty corner.
- At 24:38 in the second half, Burger tallied her first goal of the season off a penalty corner to make the score 5-1. Just 1:17 later, Quinlin cut the deficit to 5-2, scoring an unassisted goal off a penalty corner.
- With 7:03 remaining Walker scored her second goal of the day to end the game 6-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Hounds goaltender Sarah Bodzinski (Southwick, Mass./ Southwick Tolland Regional) made five saves in the loss, while Hawks goaltender Sarah Bentley made one save in the win.
- The Saint Anselm offense out shot Assumption 13 to 4 and produced five more corners.
