The Lead: Three different Hounds recorded a multipoint game as the Assumption College ice hockey team recorded their first shutout of the season, taking down Franklin Pierce 4-0 on Friday night in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first period, Assumption outshot Franklin Pierce 12-7 to hold the Ravens to a 0-0 tie. David Zulauf (Rochester, MI/Bridgton Academy) led the way with 7 saves.
- Assumption started to find its groove as their scored two goals in the second period. The first goal was scored by John Chamberlain (Amesbury, Mass./Williston North Hampton School), which was assisted by Peter McDonagh (Latrobe, Pa. / Boston Jr. Bruins (USPHL Elite)) and senior Cam Laughlin (Natick, Mass. / Portland Jr. Pirates (USPHL Premier)). The second goal came from Mike Sorenti (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Archbishop Williams (MA HS)) off an assist from Ryan Loranger (Billerica, Mass./ Billerica Memorial).
- With 13:34 left in the third period Laughlin tipped in a shot from the point off sophomore defenseman Robert Roche (Holden, Mass./ Tri City Storm (USHL)) to extend the lead to 3-0. With 1:17 left, the Ravens pulled their goalie, which led onto an empty netter by Peter McDonagh, with 1:01 left, which was assisted by Kieran Peters (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia / Bridgton Academy (Prep)) to secure the 4-0 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Hounds outshot the Ravens 32-21, while outscoring them 4-0. Chamberlain, Laughlin, and McDonagh led the Hounds with a goal and an assist each. Peters, and Loranger also contributed with an assist each.
- Zulauf led the way with 21 saves in the shuout while Raven goaltender Tom McGuckin made 28 saves in the loss.
UP NEXT:
- The Hounds are back tomorrow to face the Ravens again at 8:35 pm. The team will celebrate the program's 100th anniversary tomorrow, as well as host its annual military appreciation game.
