Lead: After being held scoreless for two periods, the Assumption College ice hockey team tallied two goals in the final ten minutes of regulation to come back and defeat Post 2-1 on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With ten seconds left in the first period Post tallied their only goal of the night as Anthony Glacomin beat David Zulauf (Rochester, MI./ Bridgton Academy (Prep)) on the glove side on the power play. Noah Wild and Nolan Arbuckle were credited with the assists.
- Both teams were held scoreless in the second period, despite the Hounds outshooting Post 19-5.
- At 9:52 of the third, junior Matt Damelio (Rochester, N.Y. / Northwood (Prep)) tapped in a pass to the slot from seniors Brian Farrell (Island Park, N.Y. / South Kent School (USPHL U18)) and Cam Laughlin (Natick, Mass./ Portland Jr. Pirates (USPHL)) to tie the game 1-1.
- Just 4:20 later, senior defenseman Matt Cowles (Farmington, Conn. / Avon Old Farms (Prep)) registered the game-winning off a pass from Laughlin. He took a shot from the point and with the screen in the slot he was able to beat Eagle goaltender Brandon Brown in the upper right corner to end the game 2-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Assumption out shot the Eagles 49-23, and both teams tallied a goal on the power play. Laughlin led the offense with two assists.
- Zulauf made saves 23 saves to improve his record to 10-5-1, while Brown tallied 47 saves in the loss.
