- The Lead: Kevin Hernandez (San Juan, P.R. / Colegio San Jose) and Tyler Moreau (Hooksett, N.H. / Manchester Central) scored for the Assumption Greyhounds to lead their team 2-1 over the Saint Rose Golden Knights and to the first ever Northeast-10 Championship victory in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Hernandez put his team up 1-0 at the 24:08 mark. He got his head on a ball placed out front by teammate Ruben Faria (Fall River, Mass. / Bishop Connolly), catching Saint Rose goalie Gianni Carillo out of position for his team's first goal of the game.
-Moreau then added a second goal at the 78:41 mark. Mauro Cortez (Providence, R.I. / La Salle Academy) possessed the ball in the corner and sent it out front to Moreau. Moreau then took it and swung, putting a bouncing ball into the bottom left corner of the net for the 2-0 lead.
-Saint Rose was able to get one back at the 86:39 mark, but it ultimately wasn't enough. Filippo Bellu challenged Assumption goalie Sebastian Jimenez (Naples, Fla. / Gulf Coast High School) for a loose ball and ultimately won. Both players went to play it, but Bellu was the first to get to it, putting the ball up and over Jimenez, slowly bouncing into the back of the net.
