- The Lead: Andrew Andary scored one goal and two assists, Mike Ferraro and Killian Hammersmith scored one goal and one assist each, and the Saint Anselm Hawks held off the Assumption Greyhounds 5-3 on Friday night in Manchester, N.H.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Andary scored while on the power play at the 9:19 mark of the first period, assisted by Ferraro and Hammersmith, to put the Hounds in a 2-0 hole. Robert Holyoke (Middleboro, Mass. / South Shore Kings (USPHL Premier)) scored at the 16:45 mark of the first to bring the Hounds back within one by the end of the period.
-Saint Anselm then took a 4-2 lead by the end of the second. Liam O'Sullivan put the Hawks up 3-1 just 40 second into the second. John Pigott (Arlington, Mass. / Tilton School (Prep)) brought the Hounds back within one at 3-2 at the 4:58 mark. Hammersmith then scored at the 9:40 mark to go back up by two by the period's end.
-Robert Roche (Holden, Mass. / Tri City Storm (USHL)) pulled the Hounds back to within one, 4-3, just 1:08 into the third. The Hounds fought hard, putting six shots on net in the period and even pressed by pulling goaltender David Zulauf (Rochester, Mich. / Bridgton Academy (Prep)) with 32 seconds left in the game. However, the Hounds were not able to find the equalizer and Ferraro scored on an empty net with nine seconds left to reach the 5-3 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-The Hawks outshot Assumption 28-24. The Hounds went 1-for-8 on the power play, while the Saint Anselm went 3-for-6.
-Michael Zampanti (Winthrop, Mass. / Islanders Hockey Club (USPHL Premier)) led the Hounds in the points column, netting two assists. Friday marked Zampanti's third multi-point game this season, tallying nine points in nine games. Pigott's goal was his third on the season, netting two in his last two games. In addition to his goal, Roche went +2 while on the ice, making him +9 on the season.
-Zulauf made 23 saves on 27 shots, but fell to 0-3-0 on the year. Michal Soustal made 21 saves on 24 shots for the Hawks and improved to 3-1-0.
