- The Lead: The Assumption College women's basketball team fell to the Setters of Pace University in NE10 action at home on Tuesday evening. The Hounds held a 34-31 lead at the half before Pace put up 34 points in the final two quarters and held the hosts to 23 for the final 65-57 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption took a slight edge after the first 10 minutes of play, 14-13. Senior Brianna Capacchione (Washington Township, N.J. / Washington Township) made a three-pointer to give the Hounds the 6-5 lead with 7:42 on the clock. Sophomore Ja'Lyn Armstrong (Baltimore, Md. / Institute of Notre Dame) followed up with a layup to extend their lead to 8-5.
- With just over five minutes on the clock, sophomore Brianna Wong made a move to the basket for the Setters, to tie the game at 9-9. Junior Lauren Schetter helped the visitors regain a lead with a made free-throw (10-9) before the Hounds closed the quarter with a drive to the basket by first year Monica Spain (Braintree, Mass. / Archbishop Williams) and a three by sophomore Emme Poulin (South Portland, Maine / Cheverus High School) for the 14-13 advantage.
- Poulin kicked off scoring in the second with another three to extend the Hounds' lead to 17-13. Schetter tied the game for Pace with a three and a layup with 6:11 on the clock, 20-20.
- Senior Katherine Golden (Millis, Mass. / Millis) went 2-for-3 from beyond the arc to help the Hounds outscore Pace 20-18 in the second stanza. Sophomore Lauren Hackett led Pace in the second with eight points on 3-for-4 shooting including two threes, while her classmate Kelsey Quain came off the bench with two three-pointers for Pace. The Hounds took a 34-31 lead heading into the halftime break.
- The Setters took over the lead in the third quarter when Quain hit a jumper at the 6:37 mark, 36-34. She pushed their lead to five with a three-pointer three minutes later (41-36).
- Sophomore Anna Shaughnessy (Attleboro Falls, Mass. / Bishop Feehan) made a layup and a free-throw to bring the Hounds back within two, but the Setters finished the quarter, outscoring Assumption 17-7, and taking the 48-41 advantage.
-Pace used seven points from senior guard, Jackie Dellisanti and edged Assumption 17-16 in the final 10 minutes to take the final 57-65 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Golden led the Hounds with 11 points and six rebounds. Junior Meghan Reen (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood) finished with 10 points and six rebounds to go along with three steals in the setback.
-Dellasanti and Quain each put up 16 points to lift the Setters to victory. Schetter rounded out double-digit scoring with 12 points and finished with a double-double as she added 11 rebounds in the win.
-Assumption shot 32.8% (21-for-64) from the field and went 7-for-18 from three-point range. Pace finished shooting 44% (22-for-50) from the field and went 6-for-16 from beyond the arc.
-The Hounds outrebounded the Setters 40-35 while the game saw five ties and nine lead changes.
