-The Lead: The Assumption Greyhounds scored five straight goals across two periods, David Zulauf (Rochester, Mich. / Bridgton Academy (Prep)) came in and saved all 21 shots he faced, and the Hounds defeated the Franklin Pierce Ravens 5-3 on Tuesday evening to take over third place in the NE10 standings.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-The Hounds went down early, allowing the Ravens to end the first period up 2-0 and then go up by three just 48 seconds into the second period. Zulauf then entered in net and the Hounds turned things around, scoring three straight to tie the game at three to end the second, and then two more in the third for the 5-3 win.
-Elliot McGuire (Reading, Mass. / Truro Bearcats (MJAHL)) got things started for the Hounds, scoring unassisted at the 10:25 mark of the second. Michael Zampanti (Winthrop, Mass. / Islanders Hockey Club (USPHL Premier)) brought things to within one at 3-2 just 6:25 later, and Brendan Philippon (Salem, N.H. / Philadelphia Flyers (USPHL Premier)) tied the game at three with just 38 seconds left in the second period at the 19:22 mark.
-The Hounds scored the eventual game-winning goal just 48 seconds into the third when Zampanti tallied his second goal of the game. Zulauf did the rest making 12 saves throughout the period, including multiple rebound shots, to preserve the lead. Dante Maribito (Georgetown, Mass. / Phillips Academy (Prep)) scored an empty netter at the 19:37 mark for the eventual 5-3 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-Franklin Pierce outshot the Hounds 34-32. Assumption went 0-for-3 while on the power play and the Ravens went 1-for-2. Maribito led the Hounds with seven shots on goal.
-Maribito's tally gives him eight on the year and three in his last three games. Zampanti's two-goal game was his second on the year and fourth multi-point game this season. Robert Holyoke (Middleboro, Mass. / South Shore Kings (USPHL Premier))'s two assists gives him seven points in his last four games.
-Zulauf has played extremely well as of late, winning his last two games, allowing only one goal during that span. In only 39:12 of ice time against the Ravens, Zulauf made 21 saves and improved to 2-4-0 on the year. Ian Wallace made 27 saves on 31 shots but fell to 5-4-1 on the year.
