Men's Ice Hockey Wins Five Straight, Defeats Stonehill

Box Score

THE BASICS:

-Score: Assumption 3, Stonehill 2

-Records: Assumption (9-7-2, 6-3-0 NE10), Stonehill (6-9-2, 3-5-1 NE10)

-Location: Foxboro, Mass. (Foxboro Sports Center)

-The Lead: David Zulauf (Rochester, Mich. / Bridgton Academy (Prep)) continued to role in net, making 25 saves on 27 shots and the Assumption Greyhounds pushed their win streak to five on Friday night, defeating the Stonehill Skyhawks 3-1 to move into second place in the Northeast-10 standings at the time of the game's completion.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-Zulauf, who had won two straight and allowed only one goal in his last 100 minutes of play leading up to Friday night, made 25 saves throughout while his team scored three straight goals across two periods.

-Down 1-0 after one, John Fine-Lease (Willsboro, N.Y. / Walpole Express (EHL)) scored first for the Hounds at the 7:15 mark of the second while on the power play. Sean O'Connell (Stoneham, Mass. / Phillips Academy (Prep)) followed that up with a goal 5:40 later for his third goal of the season, putting his team up 2-1.

-Brendan Philippon (Salem, N.H. / Philadelphia Flyers (USPHL Premier)) added his team's third goal at the 17:07 mark of the third thanks to assists from brother Colin Philippon (Salem, N.H. / Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) and defenseman Robert Roche (Holden, Mass. / Tri City Storm (USHL)). Stonehill struck once with 31 seconds left in the game to bring the game back within one at 3-2, but it was too little too late to take down the Hounds.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Assumption outshot the Skyhawks 42-25. Both teams went 1-for-3 while on the power play. Brendan Philippon led the team with five shots on net.

-Roche tallied two assists against the Skyhawks and was +2 while on the ice. He now has four goals and 10 assists on the year with a +19 rating on the ice. In his last five games, Roche has two goals and four assists for six points to go with a +11 rating.

-The Philippon brothers' connection was the second time it happened this season in as many games. Brendan, a senior, scored in his team's previous game against Franklin Pierce, also assisted by brother Colin, a freshman, and Josef Mehall (Berkley, Mich. / Metro Jets (USPHL Premier)).

-Zulauf earned his third win in as many games, improving to 3-4-0 on the year. During that span, Zulauf has played to a .959 save percentage and 1.13 goals against average. Matthew Schoen made 39 saves on 42 shots for the Skyhawks, but fell to 5-6-1 on the year.
