- The Lead: The Hounds led an impressive comeback in the second period to score twice and take the lead before the Penmen scored to tie the game at two apiece in the final seconds of the second period. The two teams held each other scoreless in the third to send the game to overtime where John Pigott (Arlington, Mass./Tilton School) connected for the game-winning goal off a scrum in front of the net.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a scoreless first period, Southern N.H. was the first to get on the board with a power play goal at the 13:33 mark of the second period. The Hounds quickly answered under four minutes later when Robert Roche (Holden, Mass./Tri City Storm) had a breakaway goal to tie the game at one goal apiece.
- Robert Holyoke (Middleboro, Mass./South Shore Kings) and Devan Sheth (Ashland, Mass./Islanders Hockey Club) connected for the go-ahead goal at the 2:54 minute mark before the Penmen rallied for an answered with just 40 seconds left in the second period to tie the game 2-2 with one period to go.
- In the third period the Hounds survived a last-minute push from the Penmen and had two quality shots in the final seconds but were unable to break the goalkeeper and the game was sent into overtime. With just 3:21 on the clock in overtime, Pigott collected a rebound in front of the net and redirected a shot past the goalie for the game-winning goal to give the Hounds the 3-2 overtime win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Assumption outshot the Penmen 43-38 with 14 in the first period alone. The Hounds went 0-for-5 on power plays while Southern N.H. went 1-for-6.
- Roche led the Hounds with one goal and one assist in the win and ended the game +2. Holyoke also recorded a goal and was +1 on the ice while Pigott scored the game-winning overtime goal. Sheth and Jared Bernis (Melrose, Mass./Boston Jr. Rangers) both added an assist in the game.
- David Altman (Bristol, R.I./Northern Cyclones) recorded the win in net with 36 saves to improve to 9-2-0 on the year while Kurt Gutting of Southern N.H. tallied 40 saves.
- The Hounds have now been 12 games without a defeat heading into their final three games of the season.
