Field Hockey Cruises to 5-0 Victory at Mercy

THE BASICS

-Score: Assumption University 5, Mercy College 0

-Records: Assumption (15-1, NE10 12-0), Mercy (4-10, NE10 3-8)

-Location: Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (Mercy Field)

-The Lead: The Assumption University field hockey team extended their win streak to 14 games with a 5-0 shutout of Mercy College on the road on Saturday. The Hounds used four differen goal scorers in the victory and are now 6-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Greyhounds hopped on the board first with a goal just over nine minutes into play. Kileigh Hynes (Auburn, Mass. / Auburn) got a shot off that was saved by Mercy goalkeeper, Lauren Viscione. First year Mia Salah (Gloucester, Mass. / Gloucester) got ahold of the rebound and put it away for the 1-0 lead.

-Assumption extended their lead to 2-0 five minutes into the second quarter. Hynes dished the ball to Deirdre Burchill (Braintree, Mass. / Braintree) who buried it for the 2-0 advantage heading into the halftime break.

-Just 30 seconds into the third stanza, Burchill netted her 12th goal of the season and second of the game. Assumption was awarded a penalty corner and Isabel Primack (Ipswich, Mass. / Ipswichgot the initial shot off that was saved by Viscione. Burchill found the ball on her stick to put it away for the 3-0 lead.

-The Greyhounds kept the offensive pressure on with a fourth goal in the 37th minute of play. Primack found Hynes who was able to beat Viscione for the 4-0 edge.

-Assumption sealed the deal with a fifth goal scored two minutes into the final quarter. Salah dished the ball to senior McKenzie Patterson (Conway, Mass. / Frontier Regional) who knocked in her first goal of the season to give the Greyhounds the 5-0 final victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Assumption outshot Mercy 31-1 (20-1 shots on goal).

-The Hounds were awarded 17 penalty corners.

-Kylie Gargiulo (Madison, Conn. / Daniel Hand) made one save in the victory for Assumption.

-Viscione made 15 saves in net for Mercy.
