-The Lead: The Assumption University Men's soccer team continued their 2021 season on the road Wednesday with a conference matchup on the road at New Haven. The Chargers took an early 1-0 lead in the game and kept it until half time and the Hounds responded in the second half with a tying goal at the hour mark. New Haven found the winner with 10 minutes to play and an insurance goal with just a minute left to give the hosts the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Chargers got the scoring started early in the seventh minute when Estanislao Desseno took a pass from Adam Lindstrom and was able to beat junior goalkeeper George Dixon IV (East Bridgewater, Mass. / East Bridgewater) with the shot to give the hosts the early lead.
-The Hounds responded in the second half when senior Ruben Faria (Fall River, Mass. / Bishop Connolly) was able to level the game in the 61st minute.
-Pau Santanach found the winner for the Chargers in the 80th minute when he took a pass from Desseno and put the Chargers ahead.
-Santach added another to give the Chargers some breathing room with 21 seconds to play in the game to create the 3-1 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Assumption registered nine shots on the night with three on goal, while New Haven had 20 shots with 10 on goal.
-Dixon IV made seven saves on the night while Themis Kastoris made two saves.
-The Hounds won four corner kicks on the night while the Chargers won 11.
