THE BASICS

-The Lead:  The Assumption University women's basketball team opened their 2021-2022 season on Saturday afternoon with their Leukemia Awareness game against Pace University. The game was a back and forth battle all night with the Setters pulling ahead with just under a minute in the game. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Assumption scored the first two baskets of the night thanks to Amanda Mieczkowsi (Hadley, Mass. / Northampton) and two free throws from Megan Cramb(New Boston, N.H. / Bishop Guertin), before Pace went on a 10-2 run over the remainder of the first quarter. 

- The Hounds regained the lead briefly in the second quarter on three pointer made from Cramb to make the score 11-10 Hounds. 

-The Setters again would go on a run for the rest of the second quarter, outscoring the Hounds 11-6 to give the Setters a 21-17 lead heading into halftime. 

- Marina Callahan (Burlington, Mass. / Burlington) scored the first bucket for the Hounds in the third quarter to cut the lead to a one possession game but the Setters managed to convert 4 free throws throughout the quarter to give the Setters a 27-22 advantage heading into the final frame.

- The Hounds were able to get within two of the Setters in the fourth, with Caterina Fonseca(Enfield, Conn. / Enfield High School) providing the offensive spark by scoring six points off the bench for the Hounds. 

-Pace was able to pull away in the final two minutes with a made three pointer and converting four free throws to create the 45-36 final. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-The Hounds were outrebounded by Pace 36-26

-Assumption was 8-10 from the free throw line (80%)

-Meghan Cramb led the Hounds with 11 points, while Marina Callahan followed with 10 points and eight rebounds.

-The Hounds travel to Manchester, N.H. on Wednesday, November 17 to face off with SNHU. Tip off is set for 5:30PM.
