-The Lead: The Assumption University women's basketball team continued their season on Saturday afternoon with a non conference matchup in New Jersey against the Bloomfield College Bears. The first half was a back and forth battle with the Bears taking a 33-29 lead at the break. In the second half, the Greyhounds fought hard and getting big points off the bench outscoring the Bears over the final two frames to secure the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Meghan Cramb (New Boston, N.H. / Bishop Guertin) made the first basket of the game for the Greyhounds on an assist from Marina Callahan (Burlington, Mass. / Burlington) , as five different players scored for Assumption to give them a 17-15 lead after the first quarter.
-In the second quarter, Cramb and Emme Poulin each made a three pointer while Ja'Lyn Armstrong (Baltimore, Md. / Institute of Notre Dame) had four points off the bench to send the Hounds into the half down by four.
-Amanda Mieczkowski (Hadley, Mass. / Northampton) put up 11 points in the third for the Hounds while Armstrong chipped in five more to lead the Hounds and put the game tied at 50 heading into the final quarter.
-Cramb opened the scoring for the Hounds with a made three pointer to start the fourth, and Monica Spain (Braintree, Mass. / Archbishop Williams) scored seven of her 14 in the fourth, including two free throws in the final minute to secure the victory for the Hounds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Four Hounds put up double digit points, with Ja'Lyn Armstrong scoring 17, Monica Spain had 14, Amanda Mieczkowski had 11 and Meghan Cramb had 10. Siani Smith led the Bears with 15 points.
-Assumption outrebounded Bloomfield 43-33, led by Spain who had nine (five offensive, four defensive) and Armstrong had eight (one offensive, seven defensive)
-Assumption was 25-54 (46.3%) from the field and 12-20 (60%) from the free throw line. Bloomfield was 25-67 (37.3%) and 8-10 (80%) from the line.
-The Assumption bench contributed 21 points on the day while Bloomfield's reserves scored 11.
